THE SUCCESS STORY OF ICOHT 2018

The 6th International Conference on Hospitality and Tourism Management 2018, was held on 14th – 15th September 2018 in Kandy, Sri Lanka under the theme “Innovative Strategies in Hospitality & Tourism Management” The conference was organized by The International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM), Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Taylor’s University, Malaysia as the hosting partner while National Institute of Technology, Fukushima College, Japan, and Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, Nigeria remained as the successful, collaborative academic Partners of the Conference. Sri Lanka Convention Bureau, Sri Lanka, has joind hands as the strategic partner of the conference and Kandy Hotels Association Institute of Hospitality – Sri Lanka joined as the industrial artner of the conference.

KEY SPEAKERS OF ICOHT 2018

The Keynote forum was one of the significant sessions of the Conference and it was enlightened by Prof. Tiger Bihu WU (Prof. & Director, The International Center for Recreation and Tourism Research, Peking University, China), Prof. Nigel Hemmington (Pro Vice-Chancellor International, Dean Faculty of Culture and Society,New Zealand) and Prof. Darshana Sedera (Director – Master of Business Information Systems, Research Lead – Digital Transformation Research Group, Monash University, Australia). Prof. Tiger Bihu WU delivered the keynote speech on the topic ” Tourism Planning and Quanyu Lvyou: Governance and Product for China as a Destination Country ” whereas Prof. Nigel Hemmington delivered the keynote speech on the topic “From service to experience – hospitable tourism experiences” and Prof. Darshana Sedera delivered the keynote speech on the topic “Hospitality and Tourism Management in the Digital Era”.

The opening remarks of ICOHT 2018 were made by the Conference Co-Chairs Dr. Chandana (Chandi) Jayawardena (Canada International Ambassador & Past President – Institute of Hospitality (HCIMA), United Kingdom) and Prof. Sarath Kotagama (Professor of Environmental Science, Department of Zoology, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka together and  with Mr. Isanka P. Gamage (Managing Director, The International Institute of Knowledge Management).

ICOHT 2018 consisted of over 38 participants from 13 countries around the world, including Sri Lanka, South Africa, Japan, Indonesia, India, Germany, Aruba, Malaysia, New Zealand, Oman, Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand. Environmental activists, researchers, academicians, policy makers, industry experts and members from non-governmental organizations to share their diverse experiences, discuss, argue and ultimately to find solutions to the issues related to Hospitality and Tourism Management.

TECHNICAL SESSIONS

ICOHT 2018 comprised of Four (7) technical sessions including a poster session. The technical sessions were under the below themes.

  • Special Interest Tourism and Special Events
  • Hospitality and Tourism Marketing, Planning and Development

WORKSHOP ON “INNOVATION IN HOTEL ADMINISTRATION

The Workshop session involved many interactive discussions, which covered various topics in relation to Hotel administration. The session was conducted by Dr. Chandi and Prof. Nigel Hemmington. Dr. Chandi stared his talk with his speech and he delivered his speech under the “Empathetic Leadership in Hospitality”. Then Prof Nigel delivered his speech under the “Innovative Best Practices in Global Hospitality Industry”. After those two speeches, other panelists were joined with the discussion and Sunil Dissanayake Chairman – SLITHM & CEO – BMICH, Roshan Fernando GM – Golden Crown Hotel, Samantha Ratnayake GM – Amaya Hills Hotel, Amal Nanayakkara Consultant – HR & Training and R. Mohanraja Food & Beverage Manager – Grand Kandyan Hotel were joined as the panel members for this workshop.

Special Features of ICOHT 18

MICE Forum

The MICE forum 2018 is organized by The International Institute of Knowledge Management with the aim of developing the Sri Lankan MICE industry. The forum comprised of experts from the field who had made major contributions to the industry and shared their expertise to engage in discussions and had the questions of the audience answered. The forum was aligned to the 6th International Conference on Hospitality and Tourism Management (ICOHT 2018) and International Conference on Hotel Administration which was held in Kandy, Sri Lanka.

PUBLICATIONS

tourism topics for presentation

All accepted abstracts for 6th International Conference on Hospitality and Tourism Management 2018 will be published in the conference abstract book with an associated ISBN (ISBN 978-955-3605-09-2). All full papers will be reviewed through a double blind reviewing process and published electronically with an ISSN (2357-2612) number in the proceedings with a DOI Number (DOI prefix: 10.17501).
